can I put polyurthene high gloss on my laminated hardwood floor to get a shine. Wax doesn't stay

Unfortunately, you waxed your floors.  You'll probably have to strip off the old finish with fine grit sandpaper because of that, or try some other stripping method.  I would suggest testing a hidden spot that has been waxed with a little polyurethane and see if it sticks and looks right.  If it works (give it a day or two to see if it discolors or flakes), go with it, if it doesn't, strip the floor.

Well, not all of my answers are gold.  And sometimes I misunderstand the question.  It's easy when you only pick the questions you know the answer to.  but I thank you for the compliment.

I did, and now I regret it.  I followed the directions and "lightly sanded" before the application but apparently if the floor is not "roughed up" enough or sanded just right before you put the polyurthene on then in about 4 to 6 months you will start seeing the polyurthene cracking all over in you traffic areas making your floor look worse.  I think if I attempt to try to fix this mess then I will hire a professional.
