Yes, you certainly can.

That is called representing yourself "in pro per" and hundreds of people do just that, every single day.

I do advise you to seek legal advice to make sure you understand your rights and responsibilities before you complete and file the documents, as filling them out incorrectly and then filing them may inadvertently limit your rights to property, etcetera.

Good luck.

Stop into any courthouse and go to the clerk's office.  Anyone there will give you free advice on what you must do to obtain a divorce.

Actually, that's not true in the State of California. By law, clerks are prohibited from giving legal advice.

They may answer general procedural questions, only. They cannot advise you as to what steps to take, nor can they tell you when your divorce will be final or what Orders the Judge may make.

They are also prohibited from telling you what specific forms you will need. Clerks can direct you to the standard packet of forms most often necessary to start a divorce, but cannot tell you which forms are applicable to your specific situation, nor which additional (non-standard) forms you might need.

Therefore, your best bet is to consult with an attorney for legal advice before you proceed in pro per.

(Note: You may complete your action entirely on your own, or you may hire someone to prepare the forms on your behalf. You do not need to retain an attorney unless you choose to do so.)

Cool Equal justice for All

The law works but the system needs changed, We all abide by the law but sometime it failes us. The same with the goverment. God bless the USA, Brign our troops HOME safely, To the men who did not get the credit they deserve, MAY GOD WATCH OVER OUR SERVICE MEN.

Yes definatly you can go ( in" pro per" ) but make sure you understand what the papers you sign stand for before you proceed my advise is ask any attorney for your rights as it may endiing up costing you every thing you have. Example Home Car and if you have childrren involved along with any assets you may have. As he or she may have a very sharp attorney on there side giveing them advise my reccommendation is hire an attorney to be safe as why get taken to the cleaners as this may be your biggest costley mistake on your part. As an only a fool repesents them selves in court as you have a fool for a client. As i stated his or her an attorney yes it will cost you but mabey not as much as you being your own attorney as you don't want to go this alone look out for you not him or her.

You could but it isn't recommended, especially since there are too many important details that are usually left out.
