Cuban Crafters Cigars
Purveyor of the Finest Boutique Premium Cigars, Handcrafted Humidors and Cigar Accessories.

A:

As a rule, the lighter the leaf the milder the flavor of the cigar. The lighter brown color leaves are either shade-grown or from the bottom of the plant. The deep dark leaves are generally from the top of the plant, exposed to more sunlight and stronger in taste and nicotine. One exception to this are some Maduro (black) tobacco leaves that are cooked to artificially darken them by processing the leaf's sugar. While it makes the leaf darker, it also removes most of their taste. Boutique premium cigars never use cooked tobacco leaves, while some mass produced premium cigars do.
