AWD is 4WD all the time,  4WD is 2WD most of the time and is switchable to 4WD.

No AWD does not mean 4WD fulltime. It is 4WD fulltime but it has traction sensing on the wheels, and gives the most power to the wheels that are getting the most traction. It was invented by Subaru, and atleast up until the last I heard, was trade marked by Subaru.

So basicaly unless you are going to be doing alot of driving on very slippery roads such as ski field access roads you wont notice any difference.  Also there are many 4WD vehicles about now that are fulltime 4WD, particularly in the soft roaders.
