Shin splints can become really painful if not attended properly. Pain killers are fine but I think you should take advice from a medical practitioner.

Shin splints is a general term used to refer to a painful condition in the shins It is often caused by running or jumping or sprinting, and may be very slow to heal. A formal medical term for the condition is medial tibial stress syndrome. I would highly recomend taking advice from your medical practitioner.

Weight can aggrivate shin splints. Take things slowly, find the right pain killers for yourself, I used Neurofen (over the counter drug) for a while then I was put onto Celebrex (prescription drug) and told not to take Neurofen with Celebrex.  This has worked for me, it doesn;t always work for everyone, but rest is the key.

Hello

I used to get shin splints all the time from running on treadmills, tracks, and pavement.  It got so bad that I had to quit running for a few months. I finally discovered the solution. I began running on a soft, dirt trail.  I now usually run 4.5 to 9 miles almost daily.  I also bought some good, running shoes and try to land on my heels when I run instead of on my toes.  No more shin splints.
