My son is almost 13 and i want him to make a diet ...

my son is almost 13 and i want him to get on a diet for his bar mitzvah. He is not that fat but 5 or 6 pounds less will be better and he'll feel better.

The problem is that he never ever will stop drinking coca cola, no mater what u tell him and also he doesnt like fruits and vegtables (only tomatoes and cucumbers) and also he hates fish.

who can give me a good diet for him?

Rules of Weight Loss

To lose one pound, you must burn approximately 3500 calories over and above what you already burn doing daily activities. Whew...that sounds impossible doesn't it? Here's how it works.

  1. Calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate). Your BMR is what your body needs to maintain normal functions like breathing, digestion, etc.
  2. Calculate your activity level.

Use a calorie calculator to figure out how many calories you burn while sitting, standing, exercising, lifting weights, etc. throughout the day.

  1. Keep track of how many calories you eat. Use a food journal to add up what you eat and drink during the day. If you're eating less calories than you're burning, you'll lose weight.

dear roei

Honestly, you dont want to create an eating disorder or an unhealthy body image. Yes, it happens to boys too. My husband's boss had to place his son in a rehab facility for bulemia. He is a handsome, intelligent boy. He doesnt think so. My poor self esteem and body image stemed from all the abuse I got as a kid from my family. My dad had my mother put me on a diet when I was 5. DONT DO IT to him. Its only a few pounds, and its probably still baby fat. Introduce him to healthy foods and a healthy lifestyle. go on walks, encourage him to join sports, etc. Let us know how you both are doing!

Sincerely, NYSLP

I would agree with nyslp. Don't make a problem where there isn't one. It's better for your son to be chubby now than to have body image problems for his whole life.

I would stop buying soft drinks and have the whole family drink water most of the time. Let soft drinks be something you have once in a while.

When it comes to exercise, I'd look at his schedule. If he only has gym class once or twice a week, then you ought to see if you can get him to register for some active class, like martial arts, basketball, whatever strikes his interest.

The focus, though, should be health and not a little bit of puppy fat.
