I would like to put shutters in my formal dining ...

I would like to put shutters in my formal dining room on the bay window.  Do shutters go in a formal setting,,  Do I also need drapes?  I really do not want anymore drapes (too heavy)  I like the top walls red and the bottom linen color with the wood work and chair rail white.....Any one have any suggestions???????

Hello Charlotte,

One of the nice things about shutters is that they lend themselves to both formal and casual settings.  By choosing certain styles of shutters to go with your own secor you can achieve pretty much any setting.

If you have any photographs of your dinning room that you could upload I could help in suggesting a few different shutter styles.

Is there a particular style/look that you are going for in your dinning room?

Hi Charlotte, I have shutters through the house, but now we have done some remodeling, adding french doors were I had windows, this is in my dining room and formal living room, I my self am tired of to much closeness that the shutters give, I have them in all the bed rooms but down stairs I'm going with something softer like roman shades, this are with large pleads, you can leave them open or bring them down to create a warm feel, they come in all colors, take a look at them before doing shutters, also if you do go with shutters, we have changed ours from wood to vinyl with a metal core inside, this prevents them from bending and we also got them with-out the bar, so it gives you a clean look even when opened, with this type you can also go wider rather than four section (two and two) on one window, we took that out and did two sides, so much better, I hope I helped you with something, if you need the name of the company, I can give you that too, depending were you are at, I'm in CA. Take care.  Heidi
