First date stories?

Could you please share the story of your first date with your spouse/partner? I'd love to hear about the date, and I'm especially interested in whether or not you (or your spouse) knew that it was something special from that night (or day) or if at the time it was just another date (helping to research a book about marriage!) Thanks so much for your time!

Actually we met online, though not as a part of a dating service. We had some business together, and communicated online, and then it became more friendly and less formal. It took him 6 months to ask for the first date.

I had a flat tire, and was late and grimy, but he was charming, and about two years later we were married :-)

I met my wife at a party my friend was throwing. We talked the whole night and had a good rapport so I asked for her phone number. Our first date was just a couple days later and we went to Mels Diner in San Francisco.

We were seated near the front door, I could see the door and she couldn't. We had ordered our food and were sitting there waiting when a group of people walked in. When they got far enough away that they couldn't hear me I said sarcastically to my future wife "look at these clowns!" She had this disgusted look on her face like she couldn't believe what a rude jerk I was.

 After a couple of minutes of pleading with her to just turn around and take a look she decided to look just to shut me up and guess what she saw... A table, booth actually, with about 8 clowns sitting there. Real live clowns. The crazy hair, the big red noses, the funny clothes and shoes. They were ACTUAL CLOWNS.

I almost destroyed any chance of a second date with the woman who is now my wife by making what seemed like the obvious joke (I thought it was funny.)

When she finally realized that they were actual clowns she realized I wasn't a rude jerk and she thought it was kind of funny too. So I followed up with the next obvious joke "I bet they all came in the same car."

Well, this is going to sound crazy...but it's true!  One night, a girlfriend and I were out partying...early the next morning, she had to make her car payment.  We went to the car lot, walked in, and my back was to the door, but, I felt like someone was just staring at me, for some time.  I finally turned around to look, and this guy was sitting by the door, just staring at me.  He asked me for my phone number, I thought he was cute, so I gave it to him.  {Usually I would give wrong phone numbers.}

Later that afternoon, he called and asked me to go out with him that evening.  I went, and this was our date.....{it was not the original one planned by him.}

We had just left my apartment, and his brother called, needing him to go help him repo a car.  I decided it might be interesting, so I decided to tell him I'd go with him.

The car that was supposed to be repossesed was in another town, about 2 hours away.  When we finally got there, to where the woman lived, we found out that she had moved.  We went to the post office, but they were closed...so we couldn't get another address on her.  The guys decided to call the police, to see if they could help, and that's when we found out that the woman was wanted for murder!  The police had had no luck finding her so far, and told US to call THEM, if we ended up finding her! Can you imagine?  Needless to say, these guys are not afraid of much, so we did look for her for a couple of more hours, not finding her, and then finally drove the 2 hours back home.

I found out a few days later that he was supposed to fly back to California, the very next day, after meeting him.  He was just here to visit his brother for 2 weeks.  He NEVER went back!!

"Tim" and I have been together for 22 years now....married for 21 of them.

Its never too late to ask.

Hello Susanna,

My first date was the kind made for the golden ages. First I couldn't even mention a boys name at the age of 15. I lived to do it at 16. My grades had to be A or B+ nothing less. The boy lived with his Mother & Father and a Sister. My Father judged all boys by the way they dressed (suit and tie) with shined shoes heels not run over. He met all of the above. The date was the movies. I told my Mother he had his own car. My Mother told me not to tell my Father, she would handle that. Even though he had been to my house before (twice) and stayed 1 hr each time with everybody in the room with us. (I had 3 other siblings). My Father lectured him for at least an 1 hr It was a rather warm night(bc a/c) I was sweating and so was my date, whom I swore would leave me. Mother finally stopped Dads lecture. He had talked so long the movie had started and Mother told Dad that who said it was too late to go. But I started crying, so my Mother told us to go on. when we got to the movie the cashier said the movie was half over and if we sat thru the next one it would let out at 2:30a. Dad had told him to have me home by 11:00 or he'd better say goodbye to his folks and leave town. We went for a long walk near the movie house, and to his folks house, his folks called mine to tell them what happen, Dad called the police dept who came to the boys house and told the boys parents they wanted me home so the parents brought me home. I was so mortified over my Dads ridiculous behavior, I did not want to date again until I went away to college. Every boy in school knew about that incident. So even if I wanted a date there was no one left who wasn't scared of my father. Even today it still doesn't seem funny..When I had my children, I did not allow dating until 16 either, I always knew the parents, visited them and made sure they had the same interest I had in my child with theirs. If they didn't I did not allow them to associate with them outside of school. that attitude and caring(we set the rules not the children) worked. My first 2 are girls none of them got pregnant while in school all were in their late 26 or 30's, I explained sex to them just as my Mother did us when they were 11 yrs old. I spanked when it was needed, and no one dared talk back to me. Hope I've helped.. :) Oh, guess you are wondering what happen to the boy? He graduated before me and I didn't see him again for 15 yrs I learned he married a friend I knew. They were divorced and he had become an alcoholic.

well, i am not married so don't expect a Cinderella story but..... i do have a story for you.  My first boyfriend was very charming and he was Mexicano (Mexican).  We always had fun together and my first date was at the movies and he treated me like his princesa (princess).  Yes, we were together for a while but no more than 6 or 7 mo.'s----but i loved him.  You're gonna laugh or call me a bad girl for this part, what he doesn't know is that he was the one that got screwed when he broke up with me!  Why? Cuz i had atleast 15 other guys that i was going out with all at the same time.  I never did get caught.  Although today, those other guys are no longer in my life.  that's my story, i hope you liked it!
