Why is it dangerous to refreeze meat tat was already defrosted?

I never refreeze meat that was already defrosted once. I do it because I was always told it's dangerous to do so but i realized I don't really know why. any idea?

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

As far as I know there are 2 reasons for it:
1.  By doing so you "kill" most of the Vitamines.
2.  You ruin the texture of the food (מרקם) and
by that you change it's flavour.
I don't think it "dangerouse".... No one will get hurt..... but you spoil the meat and you take the best out of if.  I am not an expert in that field so please check my answer, I don't want to mis-lead you.
Best regards,

uma

Every time you freeze a slab of meat the bacteria that infest it (every meat has some bacteria on it) do not die. So every time you thaw it back the bacteria continue to grow – thus it become much more dangerous.

It is not that dangerous to freeze more then once if the environment is clean and the meat was fresh to begin with – but supermarket frozen meat is the lowest of the low.

As long as there are still ice crystals in the meat, it is safe to refreeze it, without cooking.  I've done it several times, with no unfavorable results.
