Our Constitution is a document in which "We the People" tell the government what it is allowed to do.
Ronald Reagan in his farewell speech 1989

Just who does our current President think he is?

Barack Obama has stated that he "will not accept the status quo" from the Congress of the United States of America.

The president must accept what the congress says because they represent the people. He can veto any bill, but if the Congress then votes to over ride his veto, the bill becomes law and he must, according to the Constitution, enforce that law or be impeached and removed from office for not doing his duty.

The President is the head of the Executive Branch of government and as such is only an administrator; the Congress, representing the people, has the final say in all legislation.

I agree except for the statement that "congress represents the people". It should be "Congress is SUPPOSED to represent the people". I don't think this congress represents the majority in the USA.

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

This country has gotten where it is in spite of Senate Congress and the president, not by the benefit of it. That we have carried as much political garbage as we have and still survived shows we are a super nation.
We'll hold the distinction of being the only Nation in the history of the world that ever went into economic oblivion in a Rolls Royce.
I posted this question a while ago and it fits right into you question: The American people are a very giving and considerate individuals, and will forgive almost any mistake this government can make, with the possible exception of stupidity and prevarication. The conundrum the government has back themselves into is, we can tell the citizens anything, there  gullible enough to believe it. Now if we buy into the assumption that the administration believes the people are wise, then it leaves us with the final conclusion, the administration is lying.  Which scenario is it?

Pat, I just posted and answer to your question and I forgot to add this. I saw you were a big fan of Will Rogers, so I paraphrased a response from his writings, its so very relevant today as it was in the 20's and 30's. God Bless.

Does the congress really represent the people anymore?060501_lobbying.jpg image by OnlyObvious
Does the president really for the people, or is he just in it for himself? A little mini me

Congress to take the largest anti-Capitalist step in decades, by telling CEO'S of large companies, well.....we no longer believe you should make this much money and we, the government, are going to tell you how much to make. Does anyone really think that is a good thing? Since when does the federal government, have the right to tell anyone or to give anyone the control over another persons pay?

H. J. Res. 5: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second...

Obama for 20 years Oh no

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.

This resolution is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. If this joint resolution proposes an amendment to the Constitution, three-fourths of the states must ratify the proposal. A joint resolution, if not amending the constitution, may also be signed into law by the president.

You're absolutely right, but this man believes his own press and his ego is enormous.  This is the first time in my life that I have been afraid that our country will be changed and the constitution shredded.  What is very encouraging is seeing regular American's stand up and peacefully march in DC making their voices heard. More & more people are paying attention and have stopped taking our freedom for granted.  This needs to continue as it is the only way we will retain it!

Courteous, yet lively debate, keeps the cobwebs from forming and misinformation as well.

President Obama's comment was directed PURELY to healthcare reforms.

Did all of you ever play the game, telephone?  The conversation starts with one comment and then the re-translations, after translations take effect and the whole conversation turns into quite the opposite very quickly.

Our healthcare system is dominated by insurance companies who CONTROL every aspect of your healthcare now.  How is this a GOOD thing?  My doctor I trust.  Our healthcare reforms must put those decisions back onto our personal physicians instead of a board of directors who want a hefty profit taking so that they can pass out the bonus checks.

Why are most of you defending the PROFITS over the proper care our citizens should be receiving?
