Native American Traditional blanket trade, what is ...

Native American Traditional blanket trade, what is the term for that?  It refers to a blanket...If you have an item to trade, you lay it down on the blacket and back away.  A person interested in the item can move it over/lay thier item next to it...if you wish to trade for that item, then you can pick up thier time...they yours.  Sound familiar?  I just can't think of what it's called.  I knew it this am but am drawing a blank now.

Dear Mary, With the 600 Treaties signed with the Native Americans none have ever been paid or honored. In 1848, or thereabouts, a steamship headed up the Missouri River bound for trade. However, before they got to the Mandan Nation, small pox was discovered on board. The Natives were impatient waiting for their trade goods and stormed abourd the boat and took all of the infected small pox blankets. Small pox killed the entire Nation within weeks. I believe that it was "Three Bears," chief of the Mandan's who called the white man a "bunch of black hearted men." That was all the Natives could muster in their language to tell the white man how much he was hated in their lands. This can be checked on the Internet for its accuracy. Michael Joel Held
