Where can I find in-depth instructions on how to crochet a clutch or summerbag? I'm just a beginner in this hobby &dont yet undersand all the codes referred to in many of the instructional material i've come across on crochet projects..any pointers?
You could try Ravelry.com. It's a free site, add your name to the mailing list and you'll be a member in a couple of days. It's a truly wonderful site for knitters and crocheters with unbelievable free resources, forums, patterns galore and plenty of knitters and crocheters to get advice from.
I just checked and there are lots of crocheted bag patterns! Yay!

I picked up crocheting and knitting a few years back. One of the best resources I found was the local library, and the Crocheting for Dummies book. They explain a lot about all the different abbreviations. The book isn't too expensive, and a lot of used book stores have some nice books that will detail the different stitches.
