Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

Survivor, is there a reason why you cannot contact the legal system to find out the status of your case?

Does the prosecuting attorney have your current contact information? Usually, they are very good at maintaining contact with victims and keeping them apprised of the calendar of events.

In the meantime, you might check with the national domestic violence hotline to see if they can help you link up with anyone who can provide assistance.

Their website is www.ndvh.org.

Good luck, dear.

Survivor, I am sorry to hear of your difficulties in navigating the legal justice system.

Without knowing all the particulars of your case, it is difficult for me to suggest exactly what you should do.

Here is what I would do were I in your position:

I would first contact the domestic violence hotline (I gave you their web site) and explain my situation to them. If they could not help me, I would ask them for names/numbers of others who might.

Then I would contact the major newspaper in my area. I would ask to speak to the News Editor in charge and I would explain my story and ask if s/he felt the legal system's actions warranted a look see.

If I got nowhere with those steps, I would keep calling and writing everyone I could (to include my Congressman) until I got someone to listen.

Remember, sometimes you are your own best advocate. Also, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
