what is more cost effective

is it good to turn the ac on all night and then leave the windows open during the day...does it take more energy to cool the place back down after being room temp...just cause during its cooling process it stops once it reaches a cirten temp.it just seems to me that it dosent make any sense to turn it on at night then turn it off just to cool the whole house down again...more energy seems to be used to cool the house down 30 degrees than 1 am i right or just paranoid

When an air conditioner has to cool a whole house it will stay on until everything in the house is at the temperature you select ..but if you leave it on it wont stay on as much ..so I would think it would be better to just leave it on..
