Can I copy individual layers from an RGB file to a CMYK file?

I have created an RGB file in photoshop cs2, this file is for print and one that I will use to print several copies.  The file has several layers 4 of which are lengthy text layers which I have spent a great deal of time formatting (adobe is not text freindly I have learned)  I am, however, happy with what I have done.  My problem is that when I print (these are large pieces that I must send out) I am having issues with color.  I have now created new background layers in a CMYK file and would like to copy the text layers into my new file.  Is this possible? and will I have an issue coping into CMYK from RGB (the text is black with some red shadow)?  The new backgrounds that I have created are far better than my original so I don't want to convert the original if I am able to copy the the layers that I need.  Thanks. Janice
