the shock of your situation will take some time. During this time do mot be loud, tell the best jokes, or dislike the food, clothes, or tv shows etc; observe, do not spell your guts, do not repeat your stories of the reason you're in there. In other words leave out graftic details. make allowances for hot heads. do not buddy up with them. Be cordial, and don't be known as a loner. as soon as possible get an appointment with a counceler. Ask their advise on how best to keep yourself busy with programs. even if you don't feel like it do it anyway. it becomes easier. get a job, maybe you can get 2 for one. work anyway. Don't give your food away. be neat, and take reg. showers. Inmates do not like other people's odors AND by all means READ!! Do puzzles, draw, and if you want to get along with the guards, obey orders with a polite smile. write letters about the positve things. For example, what you're doing to make the time go faster. take regular naps. but don't sleep all the time.
