No connection with the internet due to Vista?

Hi,

I have recently bought a new fujitsu siemens laptop with windows

vista. when I try to connected to the internet at my parents place it works fine, but when I try to connect at my dorm it doesn´t even react to the ethernet cable I  plug in, while other laptops with XP have no problem connecting to the internet at all via the same cable and router (linksys BEFSR81 v1). Is it likely that my problem will be solved by installing XP on my computer?

Try to plug the cable in after the computer has been shut down and not in stand bye or hibernate mode.

The problem shouldn't be OS related it's strictly hardware related.

I've tried this but nothing happened. Do you know what kind of hardware could be related to this problem and what that problem could be, because the laptop is working fine on another router/cable and other laptops (with XP, iso of Vista) are working fine on the same cable/router to which my laptop is not responding.

The easiest thing you should do is to contact the nearest internet technician to get your problem fix immediately.
