Do it myself concrete floor painting or staining

I would like to have some advice on painting or staining a old concrete floor that has been covered with carpet for 20 years. This will be a do it myself job and I have no idea where to start.

I'll search, while you Cool wait.

Step 1.  If your floor is inside the house, do a little checking before you decide to paint your floor. Is the concrete damp? Are there puddles? (If so, then you have a larger problem than an ugly floor!) If so, contact a professional to take care of the water seepage problem. Let the concrete dry thoroughly before painting (this may take a l-o-n-n-n-n-n-n-g time!)

Read the entire article to find step 2.  and more advice for your project. http://www.hintsandthings.com/workshop/paintingconcretefloor..htm

Good luck with your project!

I know someone who tried doing that on their own and gave up half way through.

It's  really hard work and should be done by pros.

Basically, it's a lot of sending with an electric sender that you will need to buy \ rent, the dust is very toxic so you have to use a gas mask. Then a lot of cleaning to get all the dust out, then painting the floor with sealer and paint (again, both very toxic).

Really i would not recommend doing it on your own.

hi... the first step to staining concrete is to throughly powerwash the surface. You can then rent a paint sprayer with the attachment to stain the concrete. One tip is to spray in even circular pattern covering all of the concrete and do at least 2-3 coats for even color.

I have used Rustoleum garage floor paint with much success. They give you decorative chips that make the defects most unnoticeable. You will have to get floor clean though.
