First of all, you have to stimulate your baby's growth. This can be done by providing your baby with a calm and harmonious environment in which he can thrive. By eliminating stress , eating properly, you'll set the foundation for a great relationship.

Second, you should talk to your baby as much as possible. Research has shown that babies are comforted by the sounds of their mother's voices. In fact, newborns tend to be able to recognize their mother's voices right away and prefer their voices over strangers. Therefore, make sure that you talk to your baby every single day. By doing this, your bond will significantly improve.

Third, play games with your baby. This can involve touching your belly and seeing if your baby kicks back. Another fun game includes tapping your belly to see if your baby responds. In most instances, your baby will kick or tap you a certain number of times in response to your taps.

Fourth, listen to your baby's hearbeat . By listening to your baby's heartbeat, you will feel an instant connection. After all, there is nothing like the pitter patter of in utereo feet swooshing around inside a mother's belly. By using a fetal doppler, a handheld device, you will be able to hear your baby's heartbeat at home. Now, what could be better than that?

Fifth, meditate and connect with your baby. By relaxing and putting yourself in a calm mood, you may be able to visualize your baby and communicate with them on a spiritual level. This will strengthen the mother/fetal bond a great deal.

Sixth, read to your baby or listen to calming music. Every day, you should take some time to listen to your favorite music. So, whether it be jazz or the blues, you'll find that taking time out to enjoy the music, will make you feel more connected to baby. On the same token, you can read your baby nursery rhymes, or sing him a song. Either way, you'll see that this strengthens the maternal/fetal bond tremendously.

Seventh, look at those ultrasound pictures. Whenever you need to feel connected, get out those ultrasound pictures and take a peek. In addition, if your doctor has a 3D ultrasound machine, make sure that you get one. They are amazing and actually allow you to see your baby up-close and personal. Either way, take a peek at those pictures whenever you feel the need to connect to your baby.

In conclusion, you can significantly improve the maternal/fetal bond if you stimulate baby's growth, meditate and talk to baby, listen to baby's heartbeat, read to baby, and evaluate your baby's ultrasound pictures. By doing this, you will feel connected to your little one and your baby will feel connected to you too!

If you don't try you'll never fail... but you'll also never succeed.

I would say to do whatever feels natural. When I was pregnant I would find myself doing things like patting my belly or rubbing it every once in awhile. Now my child is almost one year old and she still can't resist calming down when I pat or gently rub her back. It's weird because I've noticed that a certain pressure is the key. If I pat her back too gently she just keeps on crying or if I pat too hard. It's that perfect pressure which is the same pressure that I used to use before she was born. Also sing and talk to your baby. At a certain point they start hearing you. My daughter listens for my voice and it calms her like no one else's. Just do whatever feels right to you. After all you're the mommy now.

Great Question & Thanks for asking.  Talk to your baby & when possible have a three way conversation between You, Hubby & Baby.  Also, when he or she gives a stretching motion that feels like a Kick pat your stomach.  Lastly, play music that you like but exclude any that has very loud sounds like a sudden clash of cymbols, or sudden loud drumming or anything else that might disturb his restful life in you prior to facing this planet with you and hubby.

In other words, keep it simple but keep it going every day.

Hope this helps, Dave Sweeney

How Can I Get Rid of This Yeast Infection?

QUESTION Dear Midwife, I have had a yeast infection throughout my entire pregnancy. My doctor has tested me for STD's and all are negative. He has prescribed metro gel to me. I have used this every few months. I am now on my 32 week and am using this prescription every other week. Is there something stronger I can use or something I can change or do different to help? ANSWER Metrogel will not cure a yeast infection, it's for a bacterial infection and can actually cause a yeast infection. Have you tried Diflucan (the yeast pill)? There are also over the counter yeast preparations and a heavy duty vaginal cream (Terazol) that might be appropriate. If all these fail, borax washes help some women and the yeast can be cultured to see what will kill it. Other things you can do for yourself include eliminating sugars as much as possible (no soda or juices for sure, only two fruits and two dairies per day) and eating more vegetables and proteins.
