A bot, yes, short for robot, in the online environment, is an automated process, in other words a *program* which accomplishes things without human intervention, or with minimal human attention. I can think of two examples right now.

Search engine companies have programs that visit web addresses to vacuum up all the information which they analyze for possible inclusion in their listings. So, for example, when you use Google, you are presented with results which have been collected by their bots.

On Internet Relay Chat [IRC] channel operators sometimes install automated processes to take care of housekeeping chores, according to programs that detect problem situations. If there are unruly visitors doing forbidden things such as swearing, for example, these programs will automatically kick the visitors off the channel.

I would be interested to hear what other examples people know about.

a bot is how americas hear a canadian ask "about"

no one knows why americans can not hear the word about properly. but then again, it is difficult to say anything without an american getting insulted.

ps: they also make fun of the word "eh"

Can someone steal your password information through a BOT?

I'm quite sure they could, though, you should be fine so long as you follow generally accepted practices, such as not writing your passwords down, and committing them to memory. Also, not using the same word for every situation in your life, but generating new ones. I know this can be daunting, considering the numerous places that want us to have passwords. You might consider doing as I do and generating a new password for each account or situation, according to a set of rules that relates to your relationship with the entity that is asking for you to generate a password.
