Be all you can be
is it called common law when 2 people live together for a certain amount of time they are considered married?
Love is the battery of life....
Hi,I am not familiar with the law in other countries but in Israel they are defined by the law as: "Known in public as being married". And the law recognize them and build a whole set of laws and regulations specially for them. They have rights and obligations. I am pretty sure there are equivalents in many (or all) other countries. Hope it helped. Best regards,

I think it differs in every state. If the couple live together, and present them selves as a married couple, its common law, and I believe after you have lived together for 2 years you have some legal rights, if you were to split up.If you live together as a married couple then the state will look at it as you are married.
Currently, only 9 states (Alabama, Colorado, Kansas, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, and Texas) and the District of Columbia recognize common-law marriages contracted within their borders. You can read more about it here.
