What color of painted furniture can be mixed with oak furniture. help needed.

what color of painted furniture will go with oak furniture to mix both together in a room ?  Dark brown, lighter tan ?  I want the look to flow, the bedside tables, possiblily the bed, and a chiar will be painted.  The dressers will stay orginal oak. Any ideals ?  The floor will be replaced in a medium tan natural carpet and the walls painted, not yet sure, maybe an antique yellow.
