Can I collect Social Security from late spouse's account now that I am remarried?

I was married for 17 yrs when my spouse passed away at age 43. I remarried 9 yrs ago and am now concerned that I will not be able to collect Social Security on my late spouse's account. I am nearly 51, have no children, and intend to work at least until 67, the recommended age of retirement. As an added twist, my current spouse is an alcoholic and I am considering divorce before our fast-approaching 10 yr anniversary. If that occurs, will I be eligible for Social Security from #1?

yes i believe so if he was not re-married, because his widow would collect.  the best way to get your true answers is go to the site of  social security.gov  and they have a artical about how and when you can get it,

I don't know how your laws are where you live or if laws differ in different states, but i had a sister-in- law here in fla that did not work except under the table because she could not hold down a job and she had been married several times and divorced so when she retired , she claimed on her husband that paid in the most money and she got alot of social security which i thought was a bad thing since i worked hard all my life but mostly as a waitress and got very little a month.  By law they have to give you   so much each month.  But just check with your state and you will also find out what approxally  you will be getting when your time comes., AD ALL YOUR ANSWERS.  It is best that you go on line to regerister now,  because they have to send you a pass word and then you can go on lie and see anytime what you  have made so far.  Good luck,....  If b.O. Don't take it all away from us.Undecided
