I have a beautilful cherry wood dinning room table ...

I have a beautilful cherry wood dinning room table with a veneer finish that was my mom's. From use of various polishes and cleaners the top has streaks and scratches on it. On the reccomendation of perfessional cleaning service I tried using an all purpose cleaner without ammonia to clean it with, which seems to have made it worse. How can I restore this table back to it's original beauty?
