How to clean a leather couch?

We have a beauitfull white leather couch which is turning gray cause it's dirty. I want to clean it up but don't want to hurt or dry out the leather and break it.

What's a good way to clean a leather couch? would water and soap work?

DO NOT USE SOAP!

This will strip away the coatings and your leather will crack. I have the same problem - I have simply used warm water, and then massaged in some hair conditioner to make the leather supple (without soap).

Leather needs cleaning every week, a wipedown with water every quarter,  and leather care product applied. Apparently it will last 20 years if you do this, 2 years if you don't.

I heard lemon juice works wonders.
Mix lemon juice with cream of tartar to a past (equal parts). rub the past in, let sit for a few hours, work some more paste into the leather and wipe clean. Make sure you try this in a not so visible area first...

I also heard rubbing alcohol works wonders, but maybe it'll make the leather less pleasant to touch late, so again, I'd check in a discreet corner first.

My neighbor has white leather furniture she purchased about ten years ago. She applies POND'S Facial Cream twice a year and her furniture looks as beautiful as the day she bought. She tells me that no leather can be as sensitive as her own face. On that advice we bought leather furniure two years ago and have also applied POND's twice a year and are fully satisfied.

hanks everyone, the couch was so dirty it had to be clean with some soap, I used borax to soften the water and some natural soap. afterwards I put on some moisturizer  to keep it from breaking done.

I'm definitely  going to use the advice about cleaning it more often...

I also have a white leather couch + dogs!!! An excellent cleaner to use is baby wipes, they not only clean really well but feed the leather with the oil they are impregnated with.
