some foods such as fatty fish, walnuts, oatmeal, and oat bran have been knon to lower LDL ("Bad cholesterol") levels. especially effective in the control of cholesterol level is a diet combining these foods. However changing your diet may not always be enough. You may need to also supplement it with medication. It is advisable to consult your MD. Anyway read more about this here:

It's not the mountain we conquer... but ourselves

I know that red meat and food with fats and palm oil are no good.  Growing up, I had high cholesterol and I ate a lot of grilled chicken, salad, vegetables, fruit... these things are healthy and keep your cholesterol down.  It's the junk food like fast food, chocolate, candy, cookies and chips that are bad for you.  Even with cookies and chips though, you can look at the ingredients and see which aren't as bad as others.  You can eat these things, but small bits and not every day.  Good luck.

Eat healthy things like vegetables and whole grain to stop the cholesterol level from rising. Instead of using butter, use olive oil which has healthier fats. My dad had a very high cholesterol level, so I know I have to watch what I eat. He took capsules of fish fat every day to get rid of “bad cholesterol” and it helped, but he wasn’t dedicated to his health and diet, so it didn’t work for long. If you know your cholesterol level is high, you should take this problem seriously and try to fix it. Talking to a nutrition advisor would help you fix your lifestyle. I heard they give great advice and you can talk to them from your computer at home anytime.

By changing your diet and eating more of certain organic foods, you can naturally lower your cholesterol and minimize the risk of heart disease.

first of all...cholesterol is ONLY found in ANIMAL PRODUCTS. organic foods have nothing to do with it. the capsules that lolab is speaking of are omega 3 and omega 6 fish oils..not fish fat capsules.

dark chocolate has been discussed as a heart healthy product these days...in MODERATION. the other foods that hemplover mentioned are high in fat and triglyverides...but again, cholesterol is ONLY found in animal products, so most candies and cookies do not have tremedous amounts of cholesterol in them.

moderation is really the key to all of this. fill your diet with COMPLEX (HIGH FIBER) carbs, LEAN proteins, and UNSATURATED fats. DO NOT FORGET TO EXERCISE. exercise has been proven to be the #1 way to help lower cholesterol.

as far as the food part is concerned, dave.s gave you a good answer. cheerios, are another food that aid in lowering cholesterol. i would avoid fatty fish to keep your heart healthy.

have you had your lipid panel checked? what are your HDL and LDL levels?

make sure you consume < or = to 300mg of cholesterol/day. AVOID EGG YOLKS.
best wishes.
