My 3 1/2 year old son has had a constant runny nose since he has been approxiamtely one and a half. He is allergic to dust and dust mites. We have had his tonsils removed tried allergy medicine and is currently on allergy shots and it is still running constantly. I need help it is driving me crazy?
Sounds like you need to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer handy for yourself if you are constantly at your son's nose. He's getting twice the germs between the two of you passing germs from hand contact. It might help, so I'd give it a try. You'd be surprised how many germs you pick up with your own hands but imagine someone else's hands in your face also.

It sounds like you have already done allergy testing, my best advice to you is good old fashioned Benedryl. The store brand works just as well, it is one of the safest OTC drugs on the market. It may make him drowsy, so you'll probably want to give it to him before bed and before nap. You can safely give 3 doses a day. I have found that it works better than many prescription allergy meds. Check with your doctor, but this is what I would do. I hope this helps.
I'm allergic to dust and dust mites so I can understand the frustration for both of you. I don't take any medication for the problem, I simply adapted my lifestyle. My air filter gets changed every two weeks, I put cushions and pillows in larges trash bags and vaccum them flat to remove small particles (think like space bags on TV) I don't have a lot of hard to clean surfaces like little knick-knacks, I shampoo my carpets once a month, anything to control the environment of my home and give me a place to truly be comfortable.
