Many people swear by Metropolis, a coffee house located near the Granville Red Line stop. I know folks who will stop at Granville just to get a cup of coffee. Perpetually vying with Metropolis for the title of "best coffee" is Intelligentsia, on Broadway south of Belmont.

If ambience is as important (or more) than the actual cup of coffee, nothing beats Julius Meinl, on Southport and Addison. Go on a Friday or Saturday night and listen to live classical music, if you're lucky enough to find a seat.
