What charitable organizations/causes should I give to?

With the holidays coming up I am feeling very stressed out about all of the gifts I need to buy. Not only is it a difficult time of year on my bank account, but I feel bad buying extravagant gifts for friends and family who can afford so many luxuries in life. I am aware of all the suffering that exists in the world and have been considering making donations to charities and/or different causes in my friends'/family members' names instead. I want to make sure that I donate to legitimate causes and organizations. Do you think that such a gift would be appreciated? Any recommendations as to what are some good organizations/causes that I should give to?

Here is a link where not only can you help provide necessities to people in real need, but it won´t cost you more than a daily click on each of the causes in the link. They also have some interesting stuff for Christmas, if you want to go a step further and make a donation and in return decorate your house or buy your dear ones some little presents.

Oxam is also a legitimate non-profit organization in benefit of a fair trade:

It doesn´t take much to help others in need but just a good will:o) Happy Holidays!

World Vision is a reputable organization that could meet your needs.  Their phone # is 1-888-511-6598.  They have a web site also, but it was down for maintance this morning.  You can watch a 30 sec. promo video at

I think that any organization for kids and the disabled will do the job.
