Fad of pre-marital sex

Is there a new celebrity fad of pre-marital sex, getting pregnant and rushing into marriage?

I am thinking specifically of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, and I'm sure there now Jaime Lynn Spears and Casey Aldridge.

Is there a way to fight this new epidemic? To encourage people to wait or at least use protection?

MY inferiority complex isn't as good as YOURS

Well...Tom Cruise is a psycho so he doesn't count,Tori and Dean were married and were trying to conceive when she got pregnant(I do think they got married awfully fast). The others I agree with you about.Britney had a ton of young fans who looked up to her when she went all trailer trash and started having babies she can't take care of.That chaps my ass.Nicole Richie can probably credit her baby with saving her life. When she got pregnant she looked as if she were on the verge of having a tube stuck in her nose to supply her with liquid formula to stay alive. She looks much healthier now that she has someone else to think about who must share her body with her.Jamie Lynn is not the first 16 year old to get in trouble, and sadly she won't be the last.If her fans see her glowing with pregnancy happiness and cuddling an adorable baby, they may begin to feel it's cool to be a teenage mom. They don't understand she lives a life of privilege and will never have to face a truly difficult financial situation, such as needing government assistance.I do think there's an epidemic when it comes to the whirlwind relationship-marriage-divorce.The only way to fight teen-pregnancy is to stop encouraging abstinence-only and educating the kids about something they might actually do,such as slip on a condom.Abstinence is hard enough for adults, let alone teenagers with raging hormones.

I think these cases won't help the situation. It's known that teenagers look up to such celebrities and accept them as role models. This streak of cases will give legitimacy to this sort of behavior.

I don't think the fact that there have been a few celebrities who have chosen this path is necessarily surprising. There are more and more people who think this sort of lifestyle is completely fine and these recent cases are part of that trend.

It's all about education. A strong program that explains the drawbacks of this sort of lifestyle can help but there needs to be work done starting from elementary school throughout the schooling process. With positive messages being conveyed there can be a change.

Since when is premarital sex new, and since when is it a fad?

Seems like it has been going on a long long time.

I mentioned this site in reference to responses to a question I recently posted. It contradicts a number of preconceptions about sex education:
