Why do my cats want my hair?

I have 2 cats about 2 yrs old. I have very long hair, and when I have a loose hair the cats go crazy, climbing all over me to eat it! If I hold it out in both hands straight they will chew on it like they're flossing their teeth. Has any one ever heard this before or do I just have weirdo cats?

Heard of it before. The dangling hair is just like a toy for the bored cat, and nothing like a good opportunity to play. Try to reward your cat after taking him off your head, or get a doll or something with long hair to distract him.

I agree with the other poster.  It is like yarn or string to them, they want to play.  However, I would suggest that you not let them play with it.  Cats will eat strings and hair and it can get tangled in their intestines and make them very sick.  Also, they wont fully digest string or hair and can cause them a lot of discomfort when they poop.  (we have all see the poop-on-a-string problem).

Get you cats a cat chaser or "cat dancer" toy, one of those feathres on the end of a wand, so they can have tons of fun playing with you, but not be in any danger!

They probably regard your hair as a play thing, and don't really want to eat it. The good news is that when they grow older they stop. The (maybe) less good news is that they might want to start grooming you, as a sign that you are a part of the pact and a highly valued member at that.

I suggest making sure they have enough other things to play with.

Good luck

~~Im on Miley's side.~~

my cat does that too... it is normal. it is like training to hunt. If they were wild cats, they would know to jump and pounce and kill and eat, so... yea...!!!
