Well, I had a Spike I raised him when he was 38 days old and he was not meowing at all not even once..
probably because he was alone untill i got him a female when he reached the age of 8 months maybe 9,, now the female cat was meowing and when I took her back to her owner,he starts meowing ,, from my experience I believe that cats learn habits from each other
