How do I keep my cat indoors? Help!

Regarding the video "Save the birds, keep you cat safe" the author requests that cat owners keep cats inside for birds and cat safety. I agree whole heartedly but don't know how it is possible. These are avid hunters and my cat sits in wait until the door comes open a crack and then darts out. I have three children with friends and family coming over. First chance and my cat will get out. She has even clawed or chewed her way through my window screens. So how do I get fresh air in my house and still keep my cat indoors. I get so frustrated because it sounds so easy to just say keep your cat inside. Not possible though. Suggestions?!

Don't trouble trouble til trouble troubles you.

Screen doors keep fresh air circulating in the house while securing door ways.

True, but like I said in my post she chews holes in them so she can get out.  Now what?  Thanks!

A squirt bottle is a useful training tool to use for a cat who likes to scratch screen doors/windows. Each time your cat attempts to scratch, squirt him a few times until he stops

I looked up and saw the world and wondered....

Some advise is easier said then done. If your cat has always been an outdoor cat your chances of outwitting her could turn into a full time job. If all else fails, try hanging a bell on her collar. At least the birds will have a better chance if they can hear her coming. I feed the birds in my yard and my neighbor's cat made my yard her hunting grounds. I went to a craft store and bought a bell that she attached to her collar. No  matter how sly this cat trys to be, that little bell alerts the birds of her arrival.

Don't worry, be Happy!

I wish I knew, my cat does the same thing.  She loves to be outside.  She brings home mice and rats and lizards.  If I put a bell on her, she won't be able to catch anything.  I hate to take her fun away, and she is doing me and everyone else in the neighborhood a service by getting rid of these varmints.  She hasn't brought home any birds, and I know she would cause she likes to show off.  I think the birds are on to her and are safe for now.  I only let her out during day-lite hours.  I don't want the coyotes to get her.  She seems to be cool with that.  I'm going to watch this question to see if there is a good answer I can use too.

Hello Kiddo was invited by Yedda to answer this question.

You gotta divert your cat's attention and make her life inside your house as fun as possible. Play with your cat indoors. That'll hamper all her unnecessary habits.

Cats love to get outside, its in theìr nature, so best thing for all concerned is to get a cat enclosure that can be placed outside.  So your cat gets to enjoy some of the outside and the birds are safe.  You can find cat enclosure at small pet supplies buy using the pet supply search facility.
