I adopted my cat, he is about 10 years old and has just shown signs of spraying, we have had him 3 years, is it too late to have him neutered?

I understand your concern about neutering your cat now.  As cats get older, it gets riskier.  This is because of the anasethsia.  However, ten years old is not old enough yet to worry about that. You can speak to your vet about your concerns, but he will prob tell you not to worry.

That said, I agree with patriciascloset that if he suddenly started spaying after 3 years it may be some other medical problem.  (Kidney problem maybe?).  You should call your vet and speak about possible causes and solutions.  If it is just spaying, definitely get your cat neutered! There are so many health benefits to neutering a cat or dog.  They will even live longer!

Good luck!

It's never too late to fix your animals, but if you have had him for 3 years and he just started doing this there may be something else wrong with him. I have a lot of cats and usually they either spray or they don't. You may want to have him looked at by your vet.

6 thumbs up

It's never too late to get your pet neutered. He's probably been spraying for years and this may not solve the problem. It's important to spay and neuter as young as possible to prevent certain bad behaviors.
