A few years ago it looked like smart money cards (cash cards) are about to take over and get into daily use and replace cash -- especially coins -- for most of us. This didn't really happen. Does anyone know why?
The infrastructure needed to support this extensive. Merchants simply weren't interested in making the investment required. Special cards readers are needed at the point-of-sale, as well as a a non-trivial network.
