I just heard that Richard Simmons is gay, and I wander why after so many years of homosexuality being a mainstream fact we are still mesmerized for any celebrity that comes out of the closet?
Because it reinforces something about us.....if one is straight.....it might frighten us. If one is gay....then it confirms that gay is cool, or at least OK>

I don't think anyone was surprised shen Richard came out however I believe it's something he had to do for himself.If he's been hiding it all these years and dealing with the rumors,I think it's good he came out on his own terms.With each person it's different.In Hollywood it's surpising when someone comes out because they fear losing fans and alienating their audience.In everyday life it's not a big deal but in the movie business it's a career move.
