if the smell you get is accompanied with black smoke, you probably have a sticking injector which is letting in excessive fuel. If no smoke, you either have some poor quality gasoline, or something in the fuel system is causing a lean mixture. this will cause a smell somewhat different from gasoline. pull the trouble codes to see if a sensor is malfunctioning. if the vehicle runs poorly and will not go over 35-45 miles per hour, the catalytic converter may be clogged.
