I have a 2002 highlander and its squeaks when you press the gas pedal, but it stops when you press on the brakes. What could be the problem?
if you are hearing a squeek like a mouse or stuffed toy it could be something like the water pump or alternator bearing going bad. I don't know why it would stop when you apply the brakes. another possibility if the noise is a squeal is the air conditioner belt or alternator belt is loose. this is not very likely if the car has a wide sirpentine belt that is used on most newer cars. sometimes a belt will squeek for some unknown reason. this is annoying but, does not cause any harm
