if you need a simple repair (change wiper blades, change light bulbs, change radiator hoses, etc) most do-it-yourselfers can handle the job. A local independent mechanic can do somewhat more complicated work. I would leave important and/or expensive work to a large operation or franchised shop. Engine, transmission and brake work should be done by a professional You want to have the work guaranteed by someone who has the financial capability to correct anything that goes wrong with their work. Also, your don't want your vehicle tied up in a garage that can't get the parts in a short time frame. You want the shop's reputation to be important to them. Ask a lot of questions and check the better business bureau.
