My 1996 BMW 740IL does not accelerate when I press ...

My 1996 BMW 740IL does not accelerate when I press on the gas. I had to get off the gas and step on it again to maintain speed when I try to pass. Is it the MAF sensor. I had it checked and it displayed codes for Knock sensor 3/4 and thermostat. What could it be.
