generally cars before 2005 use one grade, and those after use an updated Mercon IV or V or even VI except Chrysl;er products which use MS 7176 " D3 or D4 " grade ATF
Old Cars like 60's Classic Mustangs use Type F.
Japanese cars after 2005 use Mercon V ( in general ) i.e. Toyota Honda Nissan
New 4 cyl cars now usually recommend 5w-20.

synthetic oils give the best protection
whatever the case always use factory replacement oil filters.
