I have a 2002 lincoln town car and just had my alternator replaced. after 3 starts and sat for a few hours, I needed a jump. Could my battery be bad also and just needed the battery too recharge. how long doesw it take too recharge the battery
Most discount auto supply stores will test your car battery for free. If it is defective, you can just buy a new one. Depending on the state of discharge, and on the output of your battery charger, it may take anywhere from a few hours (using a 10 amp charger) to 48 hours (using a 2 amp charger). Also check the battery terminal connections to see if they are corroded. Clean and reconnect if necessary.
I suspect that the replacement alternator has a bad diode or the accompanying voltage regulator has a similar problem. either will allow the alternator to charge the battery. either will also run a battery down overnight.
