If you are short of money you can't be too fussy..... However thing to consider when buying a used car are: Price, resale price, age, petrol consumption, owners, maintainence cost, mechanical condition, milage, producer, appearance, performance...... and gut feeling.....

If you are mechanically inclined, and you want the best bang for your buck, buy two identical old cars.  Drive one and use the other for spare parts.  Used cars are cheaper than the sum of their parts.  The biggest expenses in used cars are maintenance and insurance.  Body parts stop being readily available the soonest, and are often very expensive.

I would never buy a new car, myself, unless I had lots and lots of extra money.  But that's me.  I know how to work on vehicles and when to throw them away.

I always consider milage and overall condition of the car I want to buy. Then I do a quick test drive.
