Hey,
I want to put a live webcam on my website, so i'll be able to broadcast some view of my house at night.
How much does such a camera should cost?
Does a regular internet camera be good for the purpose?
What do better cameras are expensive for? hardwired compression?
What should be the upload rate (Say 60K pixels)

I guess that if it's only a view of your house, you can definitely use a 15$ webcam, I would consider a better one only if your broadcasts includes much motion within the frame.
Better cameras are expensive for their better resolution, quality sensors and some of them are even motorized.
