Which cable exercises should I be doing

There is a cable machine in the fitness room and I'm 55 years old. I work out about every 6 days on the elliptical then do the cables. Have been working out for a while and was wondering which cable exercises should I be doing? ex: bench press, bent over rows, shoulder press, lat pulldowns, etc... Thank you very much.

the cable excercises can be used in addition to your regular routine and you can do a multitude of body parts on them.

The cable machine is an "option" and you should inccorperate the other equipment in the gym.

i've always liked the cable machines because its an easy way to superset biceps and triceps. Also I can really up the weight on my back excercises and am able to include another form of chest exercises in. I also see many people do crunches using the cables.

So... that being said.. it really depends on what your current routine is and make sure your incorporating other equipment into your workout.

It's hard to answer your question with such little info. I believe in muscle confusion so to me mixing it up is critical throughout the week.

check out my website for some thoughts at www.teambeachbody.com/bringitwell. Or write me for me details.

Good luck sir

Tbh, you should be visiting the spa frequently....you will feel relaxed, and calm than working ur self with exercise at the age of 55...i think it will be good for you....besides i think it could be counted as an exercise....

Hi Precious, I don't think visiting a spa and relaxing can be considered "exercise" for Joseph (or anyone else).

You have to put some effort into the exercise for it to be beneficial.  Joseph needs to add some aerobics to his routine also.

Age 55 is a great time to start a walking routine for better cardiovascular health.  NJoy

Hi Precious, No, I think you'd have to have a scale to know how much you weigh.  If you have a measuring tape, you could measure your bust/waist/hips/thighs and that would probably paint a more accurate picture.

I know that muscle weighs more than fat, so it is possible that if you weigh yourself on a scale and you are mostly muscle and no fat, the number would be larger than your body would look like.  And by the same token, if you are blubbery fat, you might weigh less in numbers than what you would look like.

The fact that you said you wanted to be half the size you are now told me you must know what you weigh now, but I guess you don't.  Anyway, for talking purposes, lets say you now weigh 100 lbs, at 5'10" you would not be healthy and you would not look good AND you surely wouldn't want to be weighing 50 lbs....

So, let's say you weigh 200 lbs right now today.  At 5'10" tall you probably look really good, but if you diet and exercise 1/2 of that body mass away...you would be 100 lbs and look and feel awful and most likely be close to death.

My father was 5'9" tall and weighed 120 lbs and he looked terribly ill.  A woman with his same frame would look very very slim.  Do you want to weigh 150 at your height?  Would that be 1/2 your weight do you think?

I need to know either your weight or your measurements before I can guide you or give you advice on a way for you to lose that will not kill or deform you.  NJoy
