If you dont Know for Sure Always ask for help even if you have to Swallow your Pride

If there is no ledge to sit this on and if it has like side pieces shaped like a triangle you could try an industrial adhesive and use that would probably hold it if there is a ledge to sit it on if it's woodn you could always also run screws down thru the top using a counter sink drill bit use wood fill to cover screws then get stain to match and put the stain over the wood filler when you covr up the screw holes.if thees noldge use adhesive in a tube you may have to take wood and place it aainst the mantel till it dries to hold it up in place.Jim

There are a couple of ways to go. One would be to purchase either some complimenting wood or metal brackets or corbels and securely mount them to the framing in the wall, then the mantel can be attached to these brackets. BTW, a cabinet supply store will usually carry some pre-made wood corbels of various sizes and species. Another way would be to construct upright supports that could mount to the wall on either side of the fireplace opening and attach the mantel tho these. Be sure and check the code for mounting clearances to the fireplace opening (since the mantel is combustible). The further the mantel extends from the wall the more clearance will be required.
