How do I build my own guitar amp?

How do I build my own guitar amp? I'm talking building a head with pre-amp etc, with outputs to two cabinets, as far as I know, all a cabinet needs is 4 12" speakers all wired up to an input socket, if I'm wrong please correct me, but the main need is for building the amp head.
