Can you tell me anything about a business called The Breast Cancer Society? The address listed is 10506 E Obispo Ave, Mesa, Arizona. I pledged money to them over the phone but can't find any information on them. Thank you for anything you can tell me. Karen Kingsley

This is a scam. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! They say their service is telling people about breast cancer, this is the small brochure they include with your donation slip. They do nothing, are a scam and I hope they all (the business people running this scam) die in a fire.
Hi,
I read the replay of "James",also visit suggested site.
And I totally agree with him.

The fact that ths org. has different addresses all over the place is a "red flag" to me. The address I have is for Grove City, OH.
Someone tried to say that ths org is legit because of the how, when and where the company got started. It said the org. is based out of Delware. That's a red flag since you can start up a business there via the internet.
James, Why is the charity have no information or a form 990 when I look it up on Guidestar?
Good question! - and thank you for asking it. GuideStar.com post their reports based on a charity's previous year's tax form filing - in this case IRS Form 990 (as you referenced).
The BreastCancer Society's first full year of operation was 2008. We have just recently completed our independently compiled and audited financial reports and 990 for 2008 and have filed them with the IRS and states. As to when Guidestar updates their records for 2008 990 filings, I can't say. However, if you would like a copy of our financials brochure or the 990, please email us at info@breastcancersociety.org and we would be happy to reply to you with a digital copy of the information for your records and review.
Why would anyone, except to line their own pockets, start a charity organization instead of assisting with a nationally recognized chapter of an organization, like the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an organization where 89% of raised funds goes directly to programs, not like this one where 97% goes to management and fundraising.
If these people were truly concerned, they would donate their time to a recognized charity group that actually makes an impact. Otherwise, it's just self - agrandizement.
I received a call from The Breast Cancer Society from Freehold, NJ. I was alarmed b/c I was given to a supervisor who also made it quite clear that I was to send my donation immediately upon receipt of their information. I found that unusal and rude. I know charities collect less than the amount that is stated; however, I found this odd and I told the supervisor that I would investigate this organization & then and only then would I donate. A week or so later I rec'd the information. I am concerned that the pink ribbon is different than the usual one (maybe it's copyrighted?) & the supporting information on the back is printed so lightly that I cannot read it. I'm concerned and I may not send them a check. They are new and I know they are struggling. I think we are all to glad to get something like this started in our neighborhood but BUYER BEWARE. I will continue to research this and so should YOU all too! The tax ID: 26-0237089 was on my brochure as well. A letter attached from a benefactor of this donation was downright creepy and made me suspicious - BEWARE of telephone solicitations!
