A breech baby is presented feet first when labor begins. In the process of turning the baby so it can come out head first, physicians who are not good at what they are doing can damage the baby's head causing mental problems of all sorts. The same types of problems that happen during forceps deliveries. Sometimes breech babies also have the umbilical cord around their necks, and that can cause the same spectrum of problems.
