Why are we not using a border road on the northern border?

Yes, we have a border road on our southern border that is used by agents in order to get an accurate count of the number of persons who have made an entry into the United States. However, there is no such road along the northern border. The technique used by agents is to drag tires behind their vehicles and make the border road smooth. When a person or animal crosses that road, they leave tracks (sign.) The agents are able to detect an entry of persons who have entered illegally. This is a cheap tool used everyday along the southern border. WHY are we not demanding the same technique be used on the northern border?
